Subject: Happy New Year

They do say a new year is a good time to make a fresh start, turn over a new leaf, make a clean breast of things.

Good luck.

--
Guido Fawkes Esq.

Three weeks ago a credible source told Guido that Ruth Turner was "fully co-operating" with the police investigation. This is really co-operating rather than in the sense that Chris Evans or Sleazy Leavy were "fully co-operating" before they were arrested. It is widely reported that Ruth has now retained her own legal counsel, rather than using the Labour party's in-house counsel. A clear sign that her interests and her master's interests have diverged.

Maybe 2007 will turn out to be a good year after all.

Happy new year everybody.

I said several weeks ago, if anyone likely to be dragged into this mess had any sense, they'd consider approaching the Yard with a view to becoming the equivalent of a resident informant (supergrass) and grabbing all the bonuses such a position offers.

History has proved there can only be one supergrass per investigation. It's no good electing to help the Old Bill after you've been put in the frame. The best you can do then, is cop a plea and hope for leniency :)

You did, you did, I remember you saying that. So what bonuses can she look forward to?

Well, it's a bit different from say, an armed blagger, who'd be fast tracked to Crown Court, plea, then do his four years or so in relative luxury at Woodford Police Station, while being debriefed/taken out for drinks, home visits, Walthamstow dog tracks, etc.

But the powers that be have the authority to basically let someone off scot free in return for turning QE. If the person knew how to play her, sorry, their cards right, they could make a tidy sum too, from a fund that the Home Secretary has at his disposal. Can't really see Dr (sic) Reid giving out cash in return for seeing his colleagues grip the rails at No. One court at the CCC though :)

Taking a different brief to your master is a sure sign that your master's lawyer does not consider your interests to be in your masters interest. In otherwords your master's lawyer is about to screw you over and there is a conflict of interest.

Further to the above, if Ms Turner can walk away from this without a criminal conviction attached to her name, there's nothing to stop her cashing in on the saga via a lucrative book deal and subsequent spin offs.

I'm sure my agent would be interested in representing her, though in truth, she won't need an agent with such tales to discuss.

Obviously they are all fully cooperating with the police investigation. They're not Aitkens, Archers or Hamiltons feathering their own nests (do you see what I'm doing here? with the bid reference and that?). And obviously too there is a very good case for having different lawyers. Although as you yourself have probably reported the LP ones are very good at dealing with creative conveyancing, and the very rare selection squabble or two, and standards matters ... but they don't do crime that much.

So, is Ruth going to Turner 'gainst Tone?

If she does Turner Queen's Ev, the irony will not be lost - Tony insisting on maintaining a special SS-Bodyguard of Best Friends at the Bunker, and then getting shafted by them.

But why has she been photographed in the inevitable sexless NuLab black pseudo biz-kit slouching over an unmade bed? And why are its sheets blue?

And what's on the portable CD player?

How much does she have? Enough to bring him down on her own? I doubt it. It'll take more than one, probably some anonymous staffer who does the photocopying or something, and who has a habit of retaining particularly interesting ones. Anything new on the Little People front, Guido?

Also, welcome back. Have a late Christmas card from Canada.

Mz Turner you may recall was involved in another 'corruption' story when her ex-partner Matt Finnegan was suspended as Liverpool Council's Head of Media Relations for awarding a valuable council contract to Ruth's former company.

She took the Jowett line on the allegations, saying "I have no knowledge of, nor was I involved in, any aspect of this."

As she has previously sought election to the European Parliament, it may be supposed she still has ambitions in this direction - and at 37 is still young enough to aspire to the glittering prizes.

Dropping both her boss Jonathan Powell and Swiss Tony in the poo will not only mark her as having the necessary ruthlessness for high office but leave her with much improved anti-sleaze creds (in her own eyes, anyway)

If there's no prosecution, she'll at least have earned Brown-ie points and improved her chances of a sinecure under that regime.

So a win-win situation for Ruth, really.

Julian said...

I still don't see it. If it did ever come to criminal prosecution then surely a defence barrister would rip Ruth Turner (what a great name for someone turning QE) into tiny shreds. As Raedwald said above she has more skeletons in her closet and one thing I credit Blair for is that he knows how to press the right buttons to make his colleagues jump through the right hoops.

As for the fact that she was forced to turn QE in the first place then that would certainly be enough for her to never be able to seek public office again. The implication from her action as an informer is that she is either definitely guilty or there is sufficient evidence against her to make her seek an alternative to imprisonment.

2007 is shaping up nicely to be a great year for Guido so far.

If Yate's was a real detective and knew what he was doing, it could be manipulated that Turner faced no charges and her information is classed as intelligence. No witness statement, no prosecution court appearance. Defence can call her, she can tell them to go to hell.

As for the fact that she was forced to turn QE in the first place then that would certainly be enough for her to never be able to seek public office again.

She's quite attractive. She'd have escaped being gang-banged by burly dykes armed with a toilet brush. Bugger public office. With the book that she has in her, she has no need to seek a position in public office if (it's merely for money).

The implication from her action as an informer is that she is either definitely guilty or there is sufficient evidence against her to make her seek an alternative to imprisonment.

Welcome to the real world.

Would Goldsmith be persuaded that a prosecution of Turner would not be in the public interest, if her evidence or information was used in the prosecution of Bliar? I doubt it but it is an amusing thought!

It's not a scheme, it's an option.

As for links, common sense dictates few people who assist The Filth in such a way, brag about it. I'm sure you know how to search on Google though.

Further,

So, got any precedents for that? Links to newspaper stories; backgrounders, etc?

See above re Google. I doubt you'll find any links to "Text's" or other practises used by the police either. However, do a bit of research and you should uncover how the residential informant systems works, even if seldom used these days.

Thanks...

Now that would be an embarrassment. Having your main campaign director arrested in the middle of a campaign.

Where a defendant, who is pleading guilty, has provided information which assists the police a document called a "text" is prepared. This is a highly confidential document, prepared by the police, and shown to the judge, but never referred to in open court. Nor is it ever seen by a co-defendant. It can result in a very substantial reduction in sentence. See Banks on Sentence, 2nd edn, (2005) at p.467 et seq; and R v X, 1999 Criminal Appeal Reports (Sentencing) at p.294.

Or even keep one out of prison in order to continue the good work for The Filth.

I've frequently wondered if this is the ploy Pete Doherty is utilising: giving his police handler his suppliers on a plate. I can't explain any other way he's not doing a three plus stretch.

Nah, Mattie Finnegan was suspended because he made the mistake of being caught on the wrong side in thee stand-off between useless tosser Chief Exec David Henshaw and Liverpool City Council Leader Mike Storey.

I wonder if the News of the Screws or some other scumbag-rag could be conned into buying a Pete Doherty "text". What are the breed of paparazzi called that rummage through dustbins looking for stories etc? Perhaps one of these lot could pretend to have found one; even more interesting if there was an intentional typographical error. Perhaps a mis-spelling of honi soi qui mal y pense.

Do you think Ruth Turner has a future as a Weather Girl - or will Lemit audition her for another 'roll' ?

Retired detective
Your thoughts on Doherty are interesting. Also interesting is the background of his chum Paul Roundhill, him of recent party-fall death fame, who seems to be named publicly and regularly as a heroin dealer (I'm not doing this here btw - I honestly don't know).. but never seems to get charged.

Anyway, utterly irrelevant to the topic but I had been thinking about it recently. Sorry Guido.

Excerpt from Ms Turner's interview in September 2002 in North West Insider @ Working Lunch...

"I hadn't really any intention of joining the Labour Party, I just fell in with the wrong crowd....I'm under no illusions how about how disappointing and frustrating a political organisation can be- it drives me mad sometimes. And I can't stand the petty personal politics- some of it just nasty. But there is no point in getting angry and passionate about the world if you're are not prepared to get your hands dirty"

Nice start for a confessionaland cup of tea with Mr Yates

Anonymous said...

According to your 'source' Ms Turner was fully co-operating with Old Bill at least a week before Tone's "witness" interview. Did she have her own legal counsel in place?

Anonymous said...

So if Yates gets a result, will he get an OBE?
