Why would anyone hire a chairman who walked out on his board and colleagues and his prestigious business (and also from his role as a guardian of public trust and values) at a crucial time in order to take up a better-paid position with the principal competitor? Isn't that just greedy, self-interested, unprincipled and unethical?
Clearly ethics don't matter in the TV business but is it wise from a business point of view? Would you invest in a business where the chairman is in it for himself and will shaft his backers if he sees a better deal elsewhere? ITV shareholders - take note.

ITV shares being at a low ebb and subject to takeover speculation it seems like a pretty smart move from Grade. Get a zillion cheap-as-chips stock options when you sign on, either turn it around or sell it off to Sky/NTL, and either way your investment skyrockets. Plus, there's a pretty decent chance of being taken on very high up the food chain in whichever business buys ITV. Or, sell it off in a few months, earn your multi-millions, and you're free to take another job in a jiffy.
