CCHQ "Concerned", C4 News Bemused

You have to laugh when Channel 4 News describes the not yet launched anti-establishment web-TV channel 18DoughtyStreet.com as "right-wing" (see video report here). It is all relative isn't it?

More 4 News is presented by the daughter of a former Labour party leader, anchorman John Snow was in the 80s a committed supporter of the Marxist Sandinista regime in Nicaragua and his manifest anti-Americanism still persists in all his reporting of the Middle East. C4 News is like an on-air version of the Guardian.

That the traditional broadcasters are sceptical is no surprise, that CCHQ is nervous might bemuse some, in truth they are "concerned" (trans. terrified) that they will permanently and completely lose control of the media message and become unable to easily manipulate their own activists.

Guido predicts that the station will be mocked in the early days as the inevitable technical glitches happen and the production values get established. Then it will become accepted, and finally respected. Remember how the dead-tree-press commentariat sneered at bloggers - before that is they all got themselves blogs? Remember too that More 4 News only gets 60,000 viewers. Guido will wager John Snow that this internet start-up channel will beat that in its first year.

*That C4 News Special on Political Blogging from last week that amused so many of you is here. (Launches only from IE not Firefox, doh!).

UPDATE : Zoe-Anne Phillips is the show's totty - she is no Anne Coulter - she is not even a Tory. Her previous work includes appearing in "Bad Girls".

Shame on Snow for supporting the Sandanistas when every right-thinking person was rooting for the Contras with their U.S. backed and trained death squads,drug-dealing and links to fellow thugs running Argentina at the time.So your point is Guido?
Not a good sign that you see fit to defend this web tv thing before it`s even started.Tory TV...sounds rivetting.

Who is the totty?

Jon Snow............oh so Channel4 fancies itself as up-to-date..........well I would prefer to see 18 Doughty Street - Blogging is much more dynamic than the potted rubbish TV spurts out.

The best thing will be when it can multistream with other producers on say Pajamas Media to allow people to PIP and watch opinion from Germany or Russia or USA or Israel or Japan

Guido Fawkes Esq. said...

Moko,

You need a history lesson. In the first chance the Nicaraguans got to vote freely they threw the Sandinista dictatorship out. El Presidente Ortega, John Snow's mate, was convicted of kiddie fiddling some years later. Alas he never faced charges for the Sandinista ordered attempted genocide of the Miskito indians.

More importantly the blonde is Zoe-Anne Phillips.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

The best C4 News totty, Katie Razzall, is the daughter of Lord R, who was Charlie Kennedy's best man.

What is it with Doughty Street and Tory-run media?

the void said...

so are any anarchists gonna be allowed space on this channel, or will it be the usual left/right/liberal crap

im guessing the true anti-establishment folk will as ever be ignored

hoarwithy said...

In a world of Murdoch, Malone, Rothermere and yes, Peter Hitchens, we need MORE right-wing polemic?

Sorry Guido- I look forward to a progressive [socialist/liberal/green] IPTV station with strong anti-Nazi and pro-European views.

At least if you can- they can!

Guido Fawkes Esq. said...

Just do it.

the void said...

do what, set up outr own channel or are we likely to be accepted on this

hoarwithy said...

Guido- the Sandinistas were indeed lower than scum. As bad as the Contras though.

Personally, I would have used the whole place as a nuclear test site and rid the world of all of them.

Border Reiver said...

Channel 4 News is increasingly unwatchable.

The bias, the pathetic posturing of Jon Snow and the aggressive line of questioning makes even the BBC seem tame.

nsfl said...

You look forward to a staton with "pro-European views", Hoarwithy? I assume you mean pro-EU rather than pro-Europe. Anyway, fill your boots!

hoarwithy said...

Guido- where did you get the money from to launch this IPTV?

Who are your [Tory millionaire] backers?

I'm using Firefox, and the C4 news special launched fine for me. Nothing particularly interesting there - just another dull mainstream media attempt to make blogs look like something new and dangerous, and pretend they're on the cutting-edge of new technology when in reality they're far behind. Still better than how the Mail's Ben Brogan described them a few days ago: "either vanity publishers or the equivalent of the crazy old lady at the bus stop".

I'm sure I can't be the only one sick of the term 'blogosphere' either. It's about time the media stopped talking about blogs in such abstract terms and what they supposedly represent, and started actually *listening* to them.

Wonder how long it'll take before '180 Doughty Street' is taken seriously as a news source? Guido says a year - I'm more sceptical...

YouGov Plc's IPO was back in April 2005. The shares have since risen from the initial 135p to close on Friday at 595p.

Politically and journalistically ambitious bloggers will use 18 Doughty St. to advance their careers.

Don't look forward to much critical coverage of 18 D.St. by the blogosphere's A-list.

Amusingly, Jon Snow thinks that the Guardian is a "mainstream centre" publication.

It's reality Guido, but not as we know it.

FRED said...

With the content of Guido's blogs especially the X factor,CCHQ and Maude have reason to be worried

Peter Hitchens said...

I still haven't worked out whether or not we have done the real fake Peter Hitchens a favour or not.
All this free publicity for his MOS newspaper column, the scourge of the politically correct, poofs and the police (In Cherie Blairs Britain they are one and the same)gaining all these extra readers.

I agree with your previous post and this is why the media are crapping themselves.

The day is finally coming that "citizen journalism" begins a serious rise to prominence. It's up to the media corporations if they want to make room on the bench or not, however the longer they don't the more it will damage them.

MOKO said...

As a DISGUSTED INSIDER said on your X FACTOR blog below I bet Maude and his henchmen are worried with news like that.I note the concerning news blackout in this report and I hope this new net channel will not hold an embargo to protect wrongdoings.

Channel4 might have a left wing edge but what does it matter when it's currently the best news programme in the country. Admittedly this says more about itv, sky and the bbc than channel4 but the fact is undeniable.

The report on the channel4, the few words uttered on their website, and the personalities make 18 Doughty Street look right wing. But make it good and fufil the promises of the trailor and this won't matter TalkSport and Fox News get on just fine being right wing.

If you fear it, smear it.
That has always been the first rule of the commissars and the despots, and their willing lackeys of the media.
Channel 4 like the BBC wear their bias as proudly as any Stalinite medal winner.
To be smeared is a positive point these days, it means your actually informing the proles and masses.
Heavens forbid.

I bow to no-one in my admiration for you and your work, but it might be time to rein in the self-congratulatory stuff. The most irritating aspect of the BBC's news coverage is its tendency to pat itself on the back over and over again. You and Iain go up vastly in my admiration whenever you admit you got something wrong, something that front-line politicians, broadcasters and journalists hardly ever do. You're also underdogs. That's a precious quality. You don't want another generation of Guidos coming along and taking the piss out of you, do you? Actually, maybe you do, the ultimate epitaph!

Also, can I suggest you poach Zoe Conway from Channel 4 / ITN? And her equally fit sister Kate (appeared in The Thick Of It)?

wythenshawe-bloke said...

given that '180 Doughty Street' is getting the full treatment and hype about being the first EU political net TV station, im rather disapoited that your people didnt see fit to junk the old and tired WMV format for something far more inovative, better quality and also better on bandwidth , im talking about useing AVC (Mpeg4/AVC aka H.264) as your delivery codec of choice for all future platforms including DVB-T /S/C and DVB-H(2) handheld devices.

a simple copy of the free 'VLC' on any platform/OS is all thats needed to play back and indeed (re)transmit such content.

the tech side not withstanding , its also a shame you didnt launch a limited service today and covered the masses in the center of Manchester as the labour conference starts.

i hope to see more than just theres 'no giggles in it' coverage.

Harriet Dromey is on some sofa at ITV at the moment declaring her loyalty to Brown for PM right now. It's quite nauseating. Brown-Nosing is going to take on a whole new meaning soon.

I don't know what it is but even though she is 56 she is really quite shaggable.

This press embargo given to all Campaign Managers and Agents against revelations on A listed Cronies on selection in this second tranche of seats wii hold no bars against this internet TV.
CCHQ as you suggest must be concerned.
Good luck to those involved.

Another A lister in suspicious circumstance this time arranging Poker evenings with another woman, without his wife knowing,so suggest a plethora of sunday papers.
This must be the fourth or fifth now out of the first 100 A listers announced to be up to things which are not quite what they seem.
I do not have confidence in them and I hope this new INTERNET TV will help expose further, their moments of madness.
These priority prima donnas are leading the party to a standstill.

Are you saying that "the not yet launched anti-establishment web-TV channel 18DoughtyStreet.com" isn't going to be right wing then?

I don't know why, but I have a little feelings its going to be. Maybe I'm just a cynic though and Toynbee will be on it by the end of the first week.

Be careful Moko, he'll get out his old thumbed copy of 'In the Grip of the Sandinistas' if you carry on, from his old days at the centre-ist (definately NOT right wing) Committee for a Free Britain.

I couldn't sleep last night and at 2am I switched on BBC News 24 to see David Miliband being interviewed in close up. Has anyone noticed how weird the guy looks in close detail? He has a strange wispy moustache like the bumfluff on a 14-year-old boy and his eyebrows meet in the middle. He seems to be experimenting with contact lenses a la Jack Straw ( a lot of good it did for Straw's Cabinet prospects). I had Freddie Kruger-type nightmares after that.

Alternatively, Moko could buy himself a copy and actually bother learning something about his socialist friends.

We could do with remembering that Labour and the Lib Dems received over 15 million votes between them in the last election, while the Conservatives received nearly 9 million. There are a *lot* of lefties out there. If centrist is defined purely as being where the middle voter will vote, then "centrist" does not mean "a bit to the left of the Conservative party".

"Centrist" does not mean "the proper and correct position", it just means the average.
