Is it really an attempt to embarrass Brown? Has he suddenly become a believer in the benefits of inherited wealth trickling down the generations? Answers in the comments please.
Check Byers/Blair mobile call register for confirmation of where this failed law lecturer is coming from. Both hate Brown. Brown's talking heads ask where will we find the £3bn IHT brings in? The incompetent twat that is Brown has cost the taxpayer £30bn+ through his daft schemes. Transfer the whole Treasury to Bank of England and you can sack 70% of the pen pushing tossers that occupy the ivory tower that this dangerous lunatic has built using our funds.
maybe its a blarite attempt to coax Gordon "missing in action" Brown out of his slumber , when we are facing "the biggest threat since WW2" according to Dr Reid.
funny how Brownstuff just "dissapears" when the sh*t hits the fan.
maybe it will cause Brown to appear from his long holiday - perhaps with all thats being going on like a war in the middle east and an attempt to blow up 10+ airliners from the UK and given Brown is to be the next PM, he may have something to say??? Then again maybe not? Doesn't fill me with confidence for his Churchillian leadership qualities at a time for crisis....
It could be an old New Labour technique of trying to make you enemy look extreme - in this case come out with popular policy for SE middle classes, so Brown can rubbish it, and then Byers makes Brown look too left-wing.
All this is Tony preparing the ground for his bolt to the USA and shoring up his capitalist credentials, as if they actually matter to corporate America. He is just pissing on gordons chips and good on the deluded venal wanker for doing that.
So its John Reid , one of the Milliband clones or Dave "ive got a lovely set of coconuts" Cameron as the next PM,save a round for me roy hattersley
"Lebrun est muet - est-ce qu'il est mort? Ah! Les absents ont toujour tort!" (Guillaume Oiseau, 17c)
We're always being told Gordo is on 'paternal leave', but excuse me, this isn't a council back office where someone just 'fills in' for a few months, it's one of the most senior supposedly pro-active posts in Government. Who has replaced Gordo in his er, unavoidable long-term absence? Well then, If he and his job are both that optional ('job may require some turning up at office and travel in Africa, would suit ageing Trappist with facial expression of dour integrity. Long paid holidays guaranteed.') then maybe we can save it, and - as another poster has suggested - give most of the department to the Bank of England, where 'turning up and actually working is generally required, but occasional daytime carpet-based recreation is provided'.
Probably reduce the scale of equity withdrawal so people don't die with little equity in the house...........don't forget there is Capital Gains Tax plus IHT on financial assets
It's classic Blair -- floating stuff deliberately to annoy Brown. It was for the same reason that he brought Milburn back into the cabinet briefly, just before the last election. See Rawnsley's "Servants of the People" and the bit where Brown is in the back of a cab shouting "he's stolen my fucking budget!"
Wouldn't suprise me if this was the second prong in a two-pronged summer attack on Brown. The first being leaving John Reid to take over the media as Blair flew out to Barbados just before a major anti-terrror op took place.
I can't believe that anyone has the cheek to try and justify death tax. We should all join in a clamour to get rid. It's highly embarassing to have to explain to the pater that it would be better for all concerned if he started signing away chunks of his wealth to the offspring: "er, well, The Treasury takes a chunk if the gift is within seven years of death...so, er...best you start now Dad..."
He is a bag-carrier for Blair/Campbell - and this is a cynical attempt to grab back some ground from the Tories with the middle classes in the South East. They gave the job to Byers because his career is really over so he can be a bit controversial. It won't happen but it grabs a headline or two. Yet more spin...

Same geniuses that allow nationalised French companies to buy up our utility companies while we`re banned from doing the same to theirs.Yet another benefit of the EU apparently.
Simple, this is a pre-cursor for what will happen when Blair isn't there to nanny them all (and us). He's only been away a couple of weeks and it's starting already. Cherie isn't there to answer to either. While the cat is away the mice will play.
They will start squabbling (most of them do have inheritences but not enough cash to go offshore) like little kids, the lefties will come out of the closet and start whingeing about public ownership and ethical foreign policy (i.e they want to arm Hizbollah and bomb Israel) and the new-labour neo-cons will probably find their own candidate too (possibly that reid chap, I dount anyone will dare oppose him).
It will be a 3 person leadership contest - Brown, one from the left (who will go after the clause 4/ galloway / red ken / Islamic facsist vote) and one from the right (who will go for the 'my house has trebled in value, I don't want Brown to stuff it all up for my retiremnt to Spain vote).
The mainstream lobotomised trade union core membership vote red because they aren't tories types will vote Brown.
Redken and his stalinist sidekicks Redmond (bigger head, he goes for the whole world) O'Neill and John Ross have their disciplined cadres who have infiltrated the nulab labour party (again, poor old kinnock, he really managed to do nothing at all except lose elections) all instructed to vote Brown. They've long buried the pfi hatchet with Gordon and understood that profits can go to any sets of waiting hands. How else can they get the dosh from the greater London property carve- up in the east (London that is , not where they learned their revolting political practices from) and the Olympics except under Brown ? And if you aren't signed up as a Labour Party member 6 months before the house falls in, you don't get to vote; the SA is ready and all signed up; are you normal labour voters getting back in there in time to provide your share of a third of the labour leadership electorate?

Probably discovered a rich old aunty with a heart condition.
He's seen the chance to challenge David Cameron for the leadership of the Conservative Party.
Who knows, could be a serious contender...
Bit too right wing to be leader of the Tory party, surely?
Certainly will piss off Mr Frown - perhaps that's an end in itself?
countdown to the real war begins...pre conference season.
throw as much mud as possible....something might stick!
mud, mud slinging.....leads one to think about mud wrestling....and that famous movie moment.
is this one way of diffusing the Blair Brown "heat"....the mind boggles, it sure does.

Was he really talking about inheritance tax, or is that merely a euphemism for the shite Broon will be left with once the Dear Leader decamps to NY?

Flying pig alert! Pinkos suddenly believe in inherited wealth.
NHS next on the chopping list....

Byers is pathologically incapable of speaking the truth, so why should anyone take him seriously about anything?
Nonsense, man, nonsense. This is the man who saved the British car industry for the people...Chinese people, that is.

I don't want to be controversial but I think he said it because he actually believes it
as blair's leadership is on its last legs there will be an ideological battle in the party - he's just starting early.

I really won't have this Little Englander attitude, Moko.
In a fitting tribute to Great Britain's mercantile past, we struck a pioneering deal a few years back sell our soul to America.
What a magnificent deal it has proved to be. Rejoice, rejoice!!

The only reason for this is so that the Labour fat cats can hold on to their ill-gotten gains.

I understand a close elderly relative of Mr Byers was taken to hospital yesterday...
I am back from the Amazon rainforest.
