Billion Pound Coincidence

The PFIing of the NHS is always interesting. Look where a billion* quid is going:
  • £711 million to Leicester, the constituency of Patricia Hewitt, Secretary of State for Health
  • £272 million to Staffordshire, the constituency of Charlotte Atkins, the Health Select Committee member
*£983,000,000 is not such a good headline.

I see that Guildford, the constituency of Anne Milton, Health Committee member (and occasional attender) hasn't got anything at all. Shame, as Anne's husband is Director of Public Health on the East Surrey Primary Care Trust (PCT)

£112 million to Salford, the constituency of Hazel Blears, at risk of losing her seat at the next election due to Iraq war backlash

Who is it that “benefits from this scam, fleeces the taxpayer, orchestrates the off-balance sheet fiddle” that is PFI in the Health Service?

The usual suspects.

£711 million, to Mrs Hewitt,Secretary of State for Health LAB

£112million to Mrs Blears,Chair of Labour Party LAB

£272 million to Miss Atkins,Health Select Committee LAB

£68 million to Mr Woolas, Minister of State LAB

£140 million to Mr George, Labour MP since 1974 LAB

£163 million Mr Sanders, Chief Whip LD

How many questions does this lot raise ? TB may just be cleaning out the bottom of the pork barrel in the hope that it will see him through to the spring ?

Looks like I'd better not come down with some really nasty disease. I live in the Tory heartlands.

No it doesn't do to go sick in the Tory heartlands.

There are also wide variations in the per capita NHS funding for various PCT's - as an example Herts is set @ £986 which is £109 below average in England.

I think Sedgefield is somewhere around £1300 per capita, Greater Glasgow is £1507. There's a complex formula which seems more akin to '...eye of bat, tongue of lizzard...', but you can probably figure out which constituencies benefit the most.

And it's Cornwall that gets shafted cos they're all Lib Dems down here and Tone doesn't give a monkeys.

If they paid the ego-crazy consultants less, maybe more money on drugs.

In my short experience of working for the NHS, most staff seem to blame the Strategic Health Authorities for mucking things up.

I wonder if Charlotte's cash is to build a big brand new hospital as described in the election manifesto?

For her triumph, Charlotte is predicted to lose her seat.

At least they are beginning to investigate the bung to swan hunter before the last election.

here in the third world, others call the west country, our NHS is in serious trouble. Yet as
the anonymous (WHY remain anonymous? coward)says they could not give a damn as most MP's are Lib Dem. (Which in itself shows that altzheimers is catching!).

Wouldn't it be nice if just ONE newspaper would carry this story which should be investigated by the police it sounds and tastes criminal and against the Representation of the Peoples Act?
