Labour MP Angela Eagle and former Conservative cabinet minister Baroness Shephard of Northwold speak tonight at a Hansard Society event on political disengagement. Yawn. Guido suspects hardly anyone will show up.
One of my university lecturers used to be a leading light at Hansard, but judging from the website she is no longer involved with it. Be thankful, for Dawn Oliver (for it was she) was so dull it could it almost prompt one to tears.
Is this the same Angela Eagle that, when a new publication was set up in 2005 to provide a synopsis of Hansard and political news for schools and universities, got her secretary to phone up the Deputy Editor and demand that it be shut down?
(she didn't like this: http://www.parliamo.info/pdf/NEWS-NEC.pdf
I too was taught by Dawn Oliver. Imagine my surprise when I found myself asking her a question at a press conference on electoral reform about 15 years later!
I don't recognise you from the picture, and you probably don't recognise me as I had more hair in those days, but we actually crossed over at UCL. I was there from 81-85 (including a year as an SU sabbatical) and well remember the Bentham House branch of the SDP - Dawn, Jeffrey Jowell, Rodney Austin and Co. We even had Bill Rodgers as a visiting lecturer in my finals year!

I really can't be bothered to comment on this.

perhaps they could combat apathy by offer ing an rss feed on their website?
Perhaps we could spread the apathy throughout the blogosphere with an RSS feed.

Paul - well, well, well.
We UCL boys have to stick together, eh? In my time (84-87) the law faculty was a hot bed of SDP activists, of whom Dawn was one.
This time Guido I think that you know it wouldnt really be worth considering checking out the totty.

Paul - it is a small world. But I wouldn't want to paint it....
Anyway, that place was truly crawling with Social Drinking Pondlife, as Steve Bell (?)once called them.
