ASDA Prepares Strike Busting Strategy

Portland PR's Tim Allan is Mr Unpopular among Brownites and not just because he used to be Blair's deputy-spokesman under Campbell. As if that wasn't bad enough his firm advises on strategy with the Labour party vis-a-vis keeping ASDA, the Wal-Mart owned firm, union free. The GMB is incensed with Portland's advice, the cynicism of which would make even Alan B'stard blush.

Hence the 21 separate written questions about Portland to ministers from hostile Labour MPs trying to identify contracts with government departments suitable for cancellation.

Guido is disturbed by the latest non-union ASDA staff member however [pictured]. As he wrote in his column in yesterday's Sunday Times "I am not sure whether to take myself seriously." Guido thinks that very few people take Portillo seriously anymore...

Then Guido hasn't been reading Conservativehome or Iain Dale properly then. There seem, to be a significant number of people who seem to be taking Portillo very seriously indeed as Tory Cnadidate for Mayor of London. Poor misguided fools.

Good for ASDA.

As for ConservativeHome, the general attitude towards Portillo is negative.

Portillo is a fine example of a Vacuous Personality - I treasure the Rory Bremner takieoff of his "SAS" Speech - surely a fine epitaph for a vacuity who has taken so much from British public life.

On a journey to find himself after Peterhouse the young Portillo thought he was the cowardly lion, the tin man, and the straw man, and even for a mad moment imagined himself to be the wizard himself

Portillo as 'cowardly lion, the tin man, straw man'? No. Miguel you are a loser. The man in the mirror is telling you this. Go live in a monastry and leave us in peace.

Hmmmm

So the Asda unions story doesn't really matter, but people STILL obsess about Portaloo.

The unwitting testimony afforded by this site is fascinating.

Anonymous, like many companies AsDa is union-busting. What else did you expect from Wal-Mart ?

The answer by Jack Straw is the best trying to screw Geoff Hoon over.

Good thing too, stuff the unions. If the law permits it why should have the buggers about the place. I think M&S still keeps them out as well. Only union intimidation stops all companies getting round to this position.

Just to raise the tone of the debate, the intelligent people on here should be taking the threat to our civilisation from Asda / Wal-Mart et al , very seriously, as in second only to labour.

Unlike labour, they are incredibly efficient in everything they do and out of town superstores are very damaging in small county towns. Also they have a devastating effect on small family farms, who are unable to stand up to their demands for lower prices from suppliers.
There you have it, the two most damaging entities in the country today - labour and the supermarkets, ironic that they should be at each others throats.

Friends of Portillo have advised that he is putting together a covert operation to become London Mayor under the slogan "who dares wins". Portillo will highight a bi- partisn approach to his politics.

Backwoodsman: How about you ask people to stop buying from them?

Guess I won't use ASDA's online shopping service this week just in case they haven't got what I need.
