Googling the Cameron Zeitgeist
Dave speaking at Google's jamboree yesterday was a perfect setting for Cameron. Trendy media company with a brand name that everyone knows and loves (apart from Chinese dissident bloggers). What a lucky break.
Former political secretary to Michael Howard, Rachel Whetstone, is head of communications at Google. She was rumoured to have fallen out with Dave some time ago, so she must have kissed and made up with him.

Rachael Whetstone is partner of Steve Hilton, is she not?
Steve Hilton being Dave's No.1 presentation guy, probably meant that there wasn't too much need to kiss and make up.
Precisely.
I believe the £276,000 they're paying Steve Hilton is actually a double salary, half of it must go to Ms. Whetstone surely.
That way CCO still have her thoughts and feelings aired through Hilton, and Samantha Cameron can rest easy that the woman who upset her mummy is still out of the picture.
Rachel Whetstone..
she has never kissed a parrot but she has a kissed a cockatoo.
Sorry am I getting my wires crossed or is Google the inspiration behind 'Daz's' GWB twaddle?
How does frigging around on the net correct one's work/life balance, Daz?
Ahh was it Rachel Whestone who shagged Lord Astor, Dave's wife's Step father...?
And Steve Hilton is Dave's communication lacky. And Steve now goes out with Rachel but Mrs Dave hates Rachel cos Steve's now gf pleasured Mrs Dave's Mum's husband.
How about hiring someone of indisputable talent and getting away from this ropey nepotism?
PS. Rachel and Steve are both godparents to Dave's son Ivan
I kind of joke about it... but this is the time when CCHQ has to strike a blow on the political landscape. They have to use guile, originality and vital inspiration to sell the party as a wide-awake organisation that can run the show.
They are in danger of squandering their opportunity if they continue with this bland raft of forgettable speeches, election broadcasts and town council communication.
It's making a really painful spectacle... and Dave have the bollocks to move away from your buddies.
Guido,
Why the innuendo? The Whetstone/Astor affair was all over The Times/Sunday Times?
You seem to be suffering from 'post libel trauma' old chap...
Anonymousette, Just read the article you mentioned, and yes your right it is depressing. It's just bloody typical isn't it. Yet another example of news being censored, God I am so sick to death of it all.
If DC is caught saying 'Don't be Evil' we will know he is in Google's clutches
Yes, Purple Tory. I urge others to click on the link. Google is dropping news sources (with whom they have agreements) whose views aren't leftist enough. Some of these companies dropped were dependent on their income from Google. It makes grim reading. Once the lefties get power, they are merciless.

Anonymousette, that American Thinker article is indeed very thought-provoking, but the conclusion I came to is that Google's censorship is not anti right-wing, but simply a craven attempt to protect Google's commercial survival in the middle east. Like Murdoch (e.g. in China, UK) Google has no political view and pursues only the financial bottom line, content to be a spineless Vicar of Bray, taking the line of least resistance, changing with the wind of brainless consumer opinion and sucking up to the existing power structure.
So I can't understand what Dave is doing associating with them, can you?...
Wm.
This is a non-issue. Take one 'article' cited as a reason for removing a site from Google News. It features the following: "America should deport all Muslims and invite no Muslims into the country".
Whatever you call this, hate speech or not, and whatever your political leaning, it is not news. It is not true that Google censored that article, since it can still be found through the normal search process. All Google did was to simply acknowledge that describing calls to deport all Muslims as 'news' is a category error.
Anonymousette,
'Once the lefties get power, they are merciless'
You've only got to look at what Labour has done to this country.
wmbyrd - You raise a good point. But either way, accommodating terrorism is a craven activity of the left. Look at Chapter's Books in Canada banning the conservative Western Standard for publishing those vapid Danish cartoons. They've promised to reinstate The Western Standard ... and promised ... and promised, but some mad mullah in Alberta has got himself funding from the provincial government to sue the Western Standard (he doesn't have a case, but he is going to try to bankrupt a publication which defends free speech, and which is appealing for fighting funds) - funded by the taxpayers of Alberta, a conservative province.
Yet Harpers' - it's never too late to join the party, yawn - is publishing a piece about the cartoons and the bookstores have said they won't ban it. Why? The commentary about the cartoons is "liberal" and "understanding".
The Western Standard, which is bearing up with amazing good humour despite the threats, also runs a blog, and here is their comment on the above:

(Go there; there's a sting in the tail.)

It's because Google is seen as a 'right on' company be the general masses, and funnliy enough it used to be, but go PLC and your in the business world proper, got those profits and shareholders to think of. It brings bile to my throat.

Available from all good bookshops except WH Smiths because they sell chocolate oranges.
HA HA, keep up the good work young bean at this rate the CONservative party will end up where it belongs in the scrapheap...oops sorry that should be the 'recycling bin'
Zac goldsmith has the right idea,
hold £150 million in one hand and hold £150 million in the other, and dont do any real work just enjoy life..
Perfect work/life balance.
And if I could just find a group of idiots to pay for a chauffeur driven Lexus to ferry my shoes about while I cycle to work I think I just may have got it made.
"the pruple tory said... Anonymousette, 'Once the lefties get power, they are merciless' You've only got to look at what Labour has done to this country."
If only. They haven't really had it up em, too much new age, consensus, pragmatism. You wouldn't be posting on this website here if the lefties had got power and were merciless.
'So I can't understand what Dave is doing associating with them, can you?'
My question was ironical: Chameleon Google is precisely the right companion for Dave. He'll get into bed with Murdoch too, wait and see.
purple tory: there's nowt wrong with profits as such. That's where my pension and yours will come from. Dave can pretend to favour bunny-hugging 'ethical' low-profit companies, but he needn't worry about profits or pensions - we'll pay his pension out of ours, and like it.
Andrew,
Oh you are so right, but its only a matter of time before they come banging on my door lol
Wmbryd
'there's nowt wrong with profits as such. That's where my pension and yours will come from'.
Pension for me! Your having a laugh mate lol No offence :) And I have no problem with big business, I think its good for the world, brings us closer together, it's just when they become spineless bastards and wimp out that gets my goat.
Oh and a little note for our host, ever thought about setting this site up as https? I like to feel secure in this day and age :)
Er any of you lot think that Zac Goldsmith is a dead ringer for Ed Vaizey?
Have they ever been seen in the same rooom together?
Which one's the doppelganger?

And he seems to have a steady stream of heirloom Antiques that are just sooo 18th Century Daarling, they just gotta go!! - once auctioned he can buy 'ethical contemporary'stuff instead, or perhaps a 'lastminute' weekend break in Goa or somewhere else where kaftans are derigure...
Do you think his hangers on read this? I HOPE SO, choking on their Wheatgrass smoothies!!!
How exactly is Cameron going to turn this around? He seems to be joining Cherie with this "let them eat cake" attitude.
Cameron is a just another elitist front man, he has no ideas and he doesnt have our best interests at heart,he assumes that he was born to lead, just like that fat fuck Nicholas Soames.
Pull your fucking finger out Guido. Your blog's being over run. Dullards, the door's that way.
Onan,
Agree - mass deletion of Mong comments underway.
Maybe DC fell out with Whetstone because even he realised she ain't any good. I've heard her tell Michael Howard that he should not rule out killing his own mother - an everyday phrase she claimed?!
Onan , go on then , say something witty and original.
Fuck off Anonymous. In fact, fuck off all anonimousi. Guido has made it clear that this a site for tittle-tattle, gossip and, hopefully, a humorous comment or two on current political issues. Political anoraks should stick to ConservativeHome or Bloggers4Labour.
Dayum, once again I missed a hot deleted comment. Ah well, I don't need Anonymousette's link to know that Google is whack, and I am a merciless lefty! Even the lefties are complaining.
The thing that got Google to the top was, as I blogged about yesterday, the fact nobody could buy or bully their way to the top of the rankings. Now they can, and poof, just like that, Google becomes worthless. Just try using Google to find Richard Tomlinson's blog...for a bog-standard typepad blog, it's awfully hard to find.
Google's abandonment of impartiality of course opens the way to someone, anyone, offering what Google used to, just about six months ago.
And yeah, I've dealt with Chapters/Indigo. They're looking for excuses to get rid of that not-exactly-best-selling Canadian content. They'd just as soon peddle yoga mats as books. I went in there once and asked for a book by Gore Vidal and the clerk said, "Who's she?"
Totally OT I found a video that I think explains my crush on Blair:

Okay, self-promotion over. As you were.
In case you haven't read it already (I hadn't)here's a quite sharp piece on the cross-product placements between the new Toryentsia and their cooks, wives, lovers, mums-in-law etc:-
http://www.nickcohen.net/?p=94
I know, I know, Nick Cohen, The Observer!!! the devil's spawn, and the Astors' old paper, too, but that doesn't stop Old Nick from being quite mercilessly perceptive.
And here's an (?)unwittingly insightful 'lifestyle' bit from the Telegraph:-
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/03/05/nastor05.xml
So his mum-in-law is the stepdaughter of an Astor, and the wife of an Astor, and her gel is also the stepdaughter of an Astor. And all in home furnishings/upmarket stationery etc. I guess the "Bond Street W1(Nationalisation)" bill will have a tough course through the House under Dave.
BTW in the latter article "this little Greek restaurant in W2" is presumably the small unlicensed Kalamaras twin in Inverness Mews, as it's the only Greek in W2 that'd match the description. It's tiny and crowded and used to be unknown, and great fun to go to - but I stopped going there fifteen years ago when people like Dave n' his schoolmates started making their presence very noisily heard.
Raincoaster:
'I went in there once and asked for a book by Gore Vidal and the clerk said, "Who's she?" '
Sure it wasn't Norman Mailer behind the counter?
Ooooh, snap!
So his mum-in-law is the stepdaughter of an Astor, and the wife of an Astor, and her gel is also the stepdaughter of an Astor
From an august line of New York slum landlords...........
Someone I was chatting with brought up that this is just a way to differentiate Cameron's approach to money from the Blair's. Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious here, but his timing could not have been better.
