Blog Comments for Newbies

Seems the blog has a few new Yanks and morons in the comments who just don't get the idea. Nothing witty to say - don't bother unless it is gossip, funny or similar. This aims to be an amusing, entertaining gossip blog. If you want to rant - go elsewhere or get your own blog. See here for guidance.

Guido will liberally delete rubbish comments.

Guido, in my quest to be teacher's pet:

A small piece of tittle tattle from The Times...

Zac Goldsmith stiffed the Tories in Stroud in the General Election. They lost by 350 votes when the Greens polled a pattern-busting 3,056. Young Zac coughed up £5,000 for the Greens.

And now, kerching, he's on Dave's hallowed A List.

Zac is on Cameron's list but Sir Jams would have been too - Eton is the name of a Chinese-branded radio and this is what links them all in their World of Woosterism

Have to disagree with Call Me Dave (slightly OT...) on the Stroud issue. People who vote Green are much more likely to vote Labour or Lib Dem - not Conservative. UKIP vote is a much more relevant factor there.

Prentiz,

Ummm yes true, but 350 votes is a small amount and it's entirely arguable that it could have been won.

Point is, had Zac helped the Tories, or not helped the Greens.. there is a significant chance the Tories could have prevailed.

That's all fine but as a born-again Conservative, Zac's credentials aren't entirely believable if he was so recently helping the opposition.

And therefore one has to ask, what made such a compelling case for his place on the A List over proven supporters (who have stood for a seat) like Iain Dale?

Recess Monkey posted that story almost two weeks ago, "Call me Dave".

Your gossip couldn't be any more stale.

Guido,

I'd like to suggest a measure for rubbish/offensive comments...the Milli-Oaten. Where one Oaten is a comment so offensive and unfunny that the reader feels as if he has just been covered in a tonne of sh*t. A Milli-Oaten, therefore, gives only mild offence. 500 Milli-Oatens would cause good RC's such as yourselves to retreat to a priest hole - just in case - and so on :-)

{and BTW if you don't want the hassle of having to monitor and delete stuff you may wish to look at the /. approach (http://slashdot.org) where the posters can rate responses to stories in several categories, funny, insightful etc and can also select to view only those with have achieved a specific rating or greater in one or all of the categories }
