Blair's Selective Education

Guido is reliably informed that the value of Euan Blair's scholarship is approximately $100,000. A generous scholarship for a middling ability student with an upper second from Bristol. Playboy Euan will fit in at Yale, alma mater of his dad's buddy George Bush, who majored in drinking with a specialism in chasing girls.

So who paid? U.S. sources say it is not any government programme, but given the popularity of Tony Blair in the U.S. the surname would have opened the coffers of many Anglophile foundations. Who knows, maybe the treasury of the Skull and Bones Society helped out the son of the closest ally of the society's most powerful member?

Euan could of course be "tapped" to become one of the fifteen new initiates selected each year to join the ranks of the Skull and Bones. Dubya himself followed in his father's footsteps in becoming a member. As we have learnt, nothing is impossible with the Blairs.

I always thought scholarships were given to the deserving poor or the super smart. Clearly, Blair junior falls into neither category. And its not exactly as if his old man can't afford to finance young Euan's intellectual development, to say nothing of a possible resort to Cherie's entrepreunarial talents...

Being a Blair, Euan probably just took the money that was intended for an orphange somewhere.

Sorry Guido but you are letting your imagination get the better of you.

Only final year undergrads can be tapped for S&K and they are usually expected to be members of one of Yale's acceptable waiting clubs.

So no midnight bare buttocked dashes for Euan with the words 'Run neophyte run!' ringing in his ears, no 3 hour confessions of sexual misdemeanours in a coffin and no $15,000 and grandfather clock.

Still, at least he won't have to attend the annual reunion on Deer Island. Apparently 'W' is always away on 'official duties' on the day.

New Haven is a dump anyway - a real crime-infested dump. Kerry was born in 1943 and Bush in 1946 so work out they were at Yale in the early 1960s..............I bet these Frat Houses are much different now.

Maybe Euan will join Opus Dei thinking it is like the stupid movie and thinking it is Catholic Freemasonry - all that dressing up appeals to the Blair genes

gc - in the US scholarships generally go the undeserving - and thick - sportsmen.

odd that you use this line given that Camerons history in the late eighties would finish "the project"

Blue Daz,

He will be a final year MA - so he could be tapped.

Since you don't have the Skull & Bones rule book who knows?

So wait, you can do fairly average at school and university, leave a senator's office in a huff (allegedly) and the pick up $100,000 just because of your dad... Nope, nope, that seems about right, unfortunately.
Still, at least Euan's in a country where even the leader got where he is because of his father.

If only he had an O Level in woodwork like the Thatcher kids (share).

Guido,

Don't hide behind 'rule books'. All lit on S&K is consistent on tapping up convention (which, incidentally, allows for only one foreigner).

In any case 'Magog' thinks Blair is a prat so that's one patriarch's vote down the ol' Swannee.

If he really wants to get in on the Yale frat house scene Euan might be better off going to Scroll & Key or Wolfs Head.

Nobody should mock Mark's achievement, he got the O Level after only five re-sits.

That O-Level is probably a Lower Second at a Poly/University today now standards have risen so fast

To be fair to Euan, Oxford offered him a place so he can't be thaty bad academically. He did miss the grades though, which says a lot...

I wonder how many people who got 2:1s from Oxford got turned down.

One thing Euan hasnt done is cream tens of millions of pounds off arms contracts, probably leaving that for daddy.

Please, what is this fascination with David Icke? Is the same person who mentioned him the same one on the other blog (;)they'll know what I mean ;) and do they fancy D.Icke or something?
Or is he just currently, well, on daytime tv or something?

Must be a recent phenomenon since Oxford didn't use to classify Seconds

It is perhaps ironic that everyone is concerned about whether young Euan gets tapped during his time at Yale, just as daddy Blair and Uncle George (S&C) stand shoulder-to-shoulder talking about sacrifices, yet nobody mentions Nelson's Skull & Crossbones/Jolly Roger is grand-architected into the heart of London's landscape, and flying full mast from the Monarch's pyramid of Power.

Join the dots, everything really is connected.
