The Search for Willie Horton

The Sunday papers are desperately searching for Britain's Willie Horton and they have over a thousand potential possibilities.

For those who don't know who Guido is talking about, Willie Horton was a murderer released by Michael Dukakis when he was the leftish governor of Massachusetts, he went on to rob and rape and was used by Dubya's daddy in TV adverts for his successful campaign for the Presidency. If the press find Britain's own Willie Horton, Clarke is finished. Bookies are not accepting bets on him going.

UPDATE : Guido mistakenly identified Indrit Krasniqi, as one of the 1,023 criminals allowed to roam free in Britain. He is to be jailed for life for murder and kidnap tomorrow at Reading Crown Court. He is a nasty piece of work, but not Britain's Willie Horton - as many better informed comment makers pointed out to Guido.

Willie Horton or will he not get elected ?
As can be seen from the photo, Horton's re-offending was acompanied by an appearance that stimulated the fear reflexes of suburban America.
Conservative strategists must be hoping that the first re-offender is not just foreign but has a very good tan.

There's an angle to the 'foreign convict' story that hasn't been teased out yet. A number of the convicts were imprisoned for rape, sexual assault or child abuse. Their names should have been added to the Sex Offenders Register on release, which means the police should have a day-to-day record of their addresses. Are any of the 'missing' foreigners also 'missing' from the Sex Offenders Register? How many other 'members' of the not-very-exclusive sex offenders' club are missing? Is this register a total sham?

No one seems to have asked Charles Clarke if he had any idea whether the foreign nationals in question had criminal records in their own or other countries. The answer is no of course, but it's a serious problem, highlighted by the recent case of an illegal immigrant from eastern Europe, who was sentenced to life here for rape and murder. It turned out, he'd done time in his own country for the same offences. Sorry, can't remember the details.

I work in an MPs constituency office and just had a call from a BBC journalist asking if I knew any stories about released prisoners that raped or killed anyone.

Even if this lot were all to be traced and deported, more will come along and replace them, this country is open house, america is the same unless you choose to enter legitimately, then they strip search old ladies and babies, best just to walk over the border from mexico, I look forward to the day when we have thousands of illegals marching through our streets demanding their "rights" just as happened in the US last week.

Quite right pope's pants.

Let's round up all 11 million and send them home...

Anonymous raises a very interesting point about the sex offender register.

David Willets has asked Ruth Kelly a very interesting question about the sex offenders register. Opening that can of worms again.

I got it from Iain Dale's site

Yes I think this was brought up in either the Times of YOrkshire Post on Wednesday morning, as I remember it seemed to get pushed to the back of wha was seen as the bigger story, but it is one that could really finish him off.

"but it is one that could really finish him off."

is it just me, or is anyone else getting a join-the-dots feeling about all of this.

somehow , i think we've not even found the can, let alone opened up the worms , just yet.

and does the word "Soham" suddenly pop into other folks minds?

remember the sheer incompetence discovered in that sorry case?

i sense a pattern - a pattern of utter and near-criminal incompetence.

None of these wankers, and I apologise to those of you that may be offended by that language, have ever done a real job or run anything in their sorry lives, we allow ourselves to be governed by fucking idiots full of theories with no life experience other than greasing up to each other, those that have actually "run" something (a local council or social work dept.) have always made a complete and utter fuck up of it, nothing will change until we reintroduce the ethic of public service, that is if it ever existed.
Put them all on the same salary as a police officer/senior nurse and put them up in a comfortable parliamentary hostel during the week, weekends they go home on the train or by car for petrol money.
Im fairly pissed so that's a bit incoherent.

Relates to Maryann Lenaghan case... could this be the Willie you've been looking for?

(hattip - SBS over on pb.com)

Krasniqi was a bit of a perv when he was in prison too (female staff etc) and this should definitely have been noted before he was released.

Oh hell, please tell me this is just a wank fantasy by the Daily Mail and co. "Clarke frees asylum seeker to rape/slay Esher granny/child [delete as preferred]" must trump even "Pope makes mercy dash to Palace in Bin Laden/Charles sex romp tape shock" ...their wildest dreams would have come true.

Croydonian said...

I don't have a problem with asylum seekers per se, but as with the Cuban exodus to the Estados way back, inevitably there will be certain deeply undesirable people who will be seeking to flee justice in their own countries who can spin a yarn that will fool a few bored and disengaged civil servants.

Apologies to all if I started a wild goose chase, but I did say is this the willie... - I wasn't sure if he had been inside

But it doesn't change the fact that he had been up before a judge previously for deporting, and had a track record - the question I would still have is why was he allowed to stay here having broken the law?

In almost every other country around the world, unless you have a full residential visa, then you get deported immediately after serving a term, no questions asked, with a never to return order placed on you. There are even cases where if you collect too many strikes against your name you will face instant deportation as well, as you are not viewed as a fit part of the local society.

And god forbid you should even sneeze on a Saturday night in Spain near a Guardia officer.....
