GMTV Tomorrow :
Left-Wing MP Calls for Blair's Prosecution

Angus MacNeil, the left-wing Scottish Nationalist MP who brought in the police to investigate the Loans for Lordships scandal, has called for Tony Blair to be prosecuted claiming that "if anybody has been corrupt or committing any crimes we have to recognise them as such, we’re equal in the eyes of the law and that includes the Prime Minister and especially the Prime Minister."

Angus MacNeil must have been born yesterday. Even if there was sufficient evidence upon which to base a prosecution (and there won't be)hasn't "Hutton" taught him anything?

Oh come now Lord Laidlaw. Just because you bunged a few squid to the Tory party before ennoblement doesn't mean you have to get personal.

(And left-wing? Who described him as that Guido?)

Not that I disagree with the substance of the comment but;

"we’re equal in the eyes of the law and that includes the Prime Minister and especially the Prime Minister."

Is an oxymoron.

Whitecrowuk,
I seem to remember that Thatcher was challenged by a stalking horse while she was out of the country. Will Blair be the second PM who promised so much but just ruined the country, to be brought down whilst abroad? Here's hoping.

Who knows maybe he'll do a Gary Glitter and dissappear before his role in the loans-for-lordships is exposed.

Mind you knowing how he loves his holidays - he didnt interrupt any of his holidays for crises such as the tsunami, or his "friends" Mo Mowlam or Robin Cook dying - so I expect him to leave office by going on holiday and just never coming back ...

Don't think it was Gary, Whitecrow. Try that Oz PM in the 60's. Think his name was Muldoon or something. Went swimming one day and never came back, body never found.

RM my Tea Towel says it was Howard Holt. You really are getting too excited. Tony Blair's not going anywehere for 18 months at least and Mr Plod will not get anything on him. Recess Monkey is wrong on this and Guido has wasted his money.

Muldoon the NZ PM from 1976 to 1984, when he was ousted after a young lesbian MP Marilyn Waring crossed the floor. He died (of natural causes) many years later, having retired to the back benches and to be, in his words, a little prick at the back of the house.

But that's what they said that about Harold Holt...and now he's been gone these past 39 years.

I've got Blair's (scheduled) departure pencilled in for mid 2007 too, but... there's always the unknown shark.

I suppose they *did* eventually get Al Capone for tax evasion.

Andrew, Cathryn,

Thanks for the corrections. Antipodean politicians aren't my forte (I always loose Trivial Pursuit when questions about them come up). I just knew one of the OZ ones went for a one way swim some time back.

Wasn't there a famous newspaper tycoon who was being investigated for all kinds of financial irregularities and decided to take a cruise.

Anyway this was a mistake as the investigation was preying so heavily on his mind, he didn't see the bar of soap on the deck, and fell overboard, poor man.

Now I'm worried as I know how Blair likes his cruises (easy Tom), esp when someone else is picking up the bill ...
