Cameron Decides to Come Clean
The Tories have begrudgingly decided to ask their donors to come out of the shadows. It was completely ridiculous and unsustainable for it to be any other way. Why the procastination, what was Cameron's problem?
It was all before his time and he can credibly distance himself from the old ways. It was also bad politics because it allowed others to suggest that the bogeymen were funding the Tories, it was bad in principle because sunshine is always the best antidote to corruption in the shadows. Voters rightly don't like the idea of voting for politicians funded by anonymous mystery men. Of course if it turns out the Tories were funded by Saddam Hussein or Chinese drug barons...

I thought his parents has sold their furniture at auction to raise funds for the young Dav's party.........!
No doubt this furniture sale can be spun by the Guardian into a 'tory sleaze' story whereas Blair can secretly dispose of peerages for a price without Sir Mike White and Simon "40 winks" Hoggart lifting an eyebrow (though at least if lordships were auctioned maximum value could be extracted).

Tabloid view of the loans scandal

It couldn't possibly be that having promised confidentiality the Tory party wants to keep its promises could it? And before taking any action that changes that promise they want to get the lenders' agreement? What a shocking way to behave. Why can't they be as fickle as the Labour party?
The Labour party, you may recall, ditched its promise of confidentiality without a moment's hesitation and without a by-your-leave from the poor saps that funded them. But that is no surprise is it? Not keeping promises- the Labour party?
Of course if it turns out the Tories were funded by Saddam Hussein or Chinese drug barons...
That would be George "Saddam's the nicest person you could hope to meet" Galloway wouldn't it?
I am beginning to wonder if the positioning of the zopa ad after this thread is meant to suggest subliminally that the Tories are in fact funded by the Ku Klux Klan.
Barbara,
Don't follow - it's a little bit of lark to advertise person-to-person cheap loans, yes.
KKK? Don't geddit.
Guido: The little dude in the Zopa ad looks like a 'wizard' shall we say?
Yes, that was all I meant. When he takes his hat off he looks like a KKK wizard, if a bit less pointy. Feeble, I know, but it's been a long day...
... come to think of it, what are the people who design these ads on? And where can I get some?
Looks more like the offspring of Mr Blobby and Mrs Conehead to me. Then again I've been at work since 6 and I passed my caffiene safety level about five hours ago.

If Companies House requires loans to be listed, and the Charities Commissioners like to see real accounts; I see no reason why Political Parties should not present clear and transparent accounts to The Electoral Commission as a condition of them receiving any Short Money.
After all most of the Benefits System is Means-Tested as is Long Term Care
