No Philhuk the factt that Blair said he had plans to visit the wounded and relatives of the dead. Thatcher personally wrote to each of families of the deceased service men and visited each of the wounded. yet again Blair fails to emulate the cmpassion and class of that great women
philhuk - the soldiers are dying in an illegal war justified by a media campaign of blatant lies. They enlisted to defend Britain, not to attack Iraq as US mercenaries. That is outrageous.
s penketh - she did it after the end of the Falklands, not during the conflict itself. Given Iraq hasn't finished yet, I'd say that makes your "analysis" (and I use that term ever so loosely) rather weak. That's not to say of course that the analysis won't be true in the future of course, but making it now, in conjunction with the sycophantic comment relating to "greatness" highlights your comment underlying intent. 1) killed in action
2) accused and prosecuted of war crimes
3) court martialed
4) wounded
5) not sent home

I think you wil find that recruiting literature appeals to a potential soldier's patriotism, rather than his desire to take orders. Taking orders is just a means to an end, and the end is the defence of Britain.

No, it only requires the British government to be bound by international treaties not to attack other countries without reasonable cause. The war is illegal under British law, not a hypothetical superstate.

Philhuk - Article 2, section 3 of the Charter of the UN states "All Members shall settle their international disputes by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security, and justice, are not endangered."

Thatcher personally wrote to the deceased families of the victims, during the conflict, when the Sheffield went down she had writen to all the families of those dead sailors within 2 weeks. I didn't agree with everything Thatcher did but at least she respected those that did her bidding.
Blairs war is nowhere near as intense as the Falklands, indeed he has visited Iraq but shocker he hasn't visited a field hospital or the casualty recieving ship. No I'm not anti war either I'm pro-war but don't Blair does not have the Charisma or nuance to lead a nation in war.
The Charter of the United Nations and the UN itself is not sovereign over the actions of any of its members. The very notion that only the UN can sanction or authorise war is a negation of the reality of it's make up. There is no legal requirement for a nation state to act only when the UN tells it it can. If there was then the implication would be that the UN had quasi-statehood which it hasn't.

I supported the removal of Saddam Insane, but I dont support this piss poor situation we now have in Both in Iraq and Afghanistan, I have friends in BOTH countries and there is no exit strategy at all. The Pictures we see on TV are those from places it is safe-ish for the Media to go... the rest of Iraq is in a MUCH worse situation, a situation only made worse by bored American soldiers with too mcuh explosives.
Our Government should not be prosecuted for going to war, that was absolutley just, Sadam HAD to go...
However what we should prosecute the buggers for is the situation we find ourselves in today. Stranded in the Middle East, with no way out for the foreseeable future, and all the time Kaiser Blair is cutting our defence funding.... really fucking nice eh?

As well as the various parts of the UN charter that make an agressive war illegal, there is plenty of case law laid down at the Nuremburg trials that says that you can't invade another country just because you feel like it.
As far as the attitude of the troops themselves is concerned, I do believe that they are voting with their feet. I imagine that under-manning of the armed forces will be a closely guarded secret, but haven't you noticed all the recruiting adverts on TV recently?
yeah because like Nuremburg was justice at work and wasn't in the least bit a show trail where the outcome was preordained.

To be fair, when the Guardian once reported that Blair hadn't visted any of the war wounded or talked to any of the families his official spokesman wrote in to say that he had, he just hadn't told the media.
Guido has no evidence to support his claim that Blair hasn't written. he just made it up. But then, that is becoming his style.
