The Difference Between Hughes and Oaten

Unlike with Oaten, there is no reason why Simon Hughes should resign says Cowley Street. The only "professional" gayer Simon Hughes shat on, was Peter Tatchell. Whereas with Oaten...

Have you sought professional help for this obsession?

I think the words "professional" and "Guido" are an unfortunate mix....

Have you heard of the saying, "Don't let the door hit you in the ass."?

No

OK lets go with the fact that people don't like poofs, ask North Norfolk!

Once again, I feel a medical opinion may be necessary. But first I am advised by medical collegues to take a secular opinion from a man of the world, a man who knows about politics. First stop, Guido.

What exactly is the differernce between "I admit that I have had some gay relationships" and "I am gay."

Hughes seems to take a distinction here.

Personally, I don't care if he shags goldfish but it just seems that he is yet another graduate of the same school that that nice Mr Portillo attended, viz: I used to be gay but I have...er...been cured.

Does Guido think that Simon is hoping for a cure? If so can I help?

Please shut the fuck up.

The distinction is that gay might mean wholly man-fucking, where Simon likes a bit of both.

Somehow the Oaten/Hughes debacle shows that being bi is worse than straight/gay - people think you are getting greedy

The real question is whether Hughes and Oaten ever....

It's axiomatic they screwed each other - they just screwed the entire Liberal Party!

GUIDO - TIME TO LAUNCH A DRAFT CHARLIE KENNEDY CAMPAIGN!

Overwheening ambition brings down the Tatchell trouncer and the man who wanted to be a more anti-civil liberties home secretary than Bunko Blunkett.

Five'll get you ten they're regretting setting the dogs on Kennedy now.

What was that about a week and politics?

Theo
Not just North Norfolk - Tory gay candidates in Brighton and Cornwall 'underperformed' electorally.
Personally I'm glad Libs have got their come uppence.
Althou I still havent foregiven them for pandering to racists to beat the Black Tory candidate - John Taylor in Cheltenham. Okay the Tories were trying to 'foist' a black candidate on the twon but the Liberals played their usual low game their motto seems to be the ends justifies the means

Just who is anony-mouse? You have the opinions but not the guts! Not New Lieboor perchance!

Ah - Brighton, that hotbed of the anti-gay community.

From Popbitch today:

"I was at the Eurovision Song Contest in
Birmingham, 1998. I was sat amongst loads
of MPs, and next to me was the Liberal Democrat
MP for Winchester, Mark Oaten, and his wife.
They seemed a nice enough couple: he was a
bit dithery, she was a bit stern.

"When Israeli transexual Dana International
walks onto stage Oaten nudged me in the arm
and said, "Phwoar! She's a bit of alright!"

"Erm mate", I muttered quietly so that his
missus couldn't hear, "She used to be a bloke!"
The MP looked shocked for about half a second,
then leant over and whispered "Yeah, but
she's still alright though, isn't she!"

It's hard to think of a more damaging allegation against Mark Oaten than attending the Eurovision Song Contest.

That was Campbell's doing, not their's. The fact that they still both put themselves forward as leader could demonstrate ambition trumping stupidity, but could also suggest there is deep unease about a Campbell leadership.

I'm quite impressed that Hughes has gone on QT tonight...
I wonder if he won't suffer vote-wise amongst the sandal-wearing masses? Particularly as Hughes' behaviour is bland in comparison to Oaten's.

Poor old Mike Smithson's head (and bets) will be spinning!

Are we sure Simon isn't just pretending to be gay to attract interest and look a bit more glam? After all, his 'Early-Christian-in-sandals' image wasn't winning the popular vote, was it.

Ah, he could be bisexual - hmmm. I'm reminded of the New York G&L response to the term:- 'Either you're gay, or you're straight, or you're lying!' Very unfair of course, I'm sure some people are genuinely bisexual, or at least genuinely undecided if they might not be just a bit bi. And one can quite understand the pressures that lead a seemingly mature person at the crossroads of life to commit just one utterly insane, experimental, compulsive act such as, er, voting LibDem.
Yrs aye,
Wm.

Ok now that the truth is out, along with Simon himself, perhaps I may be allowed to explain this time please Guido.

Simon as an evangelical Christian believes in a faith that holds his sexuality to be an abomination before God. therefore it is not surprising that he has been in denial since he has to deny his own feelings to himself in order to reconcile his sexuality with his faith.

The audience were lapping up SH on QT last night. I think the Libs are just about kooky enough to dig this kind of humiliation.

SH seems to think it might be some kind of virtue (from BBC):

--The leadership contender said on Thursday the way he had handled media pressure after admitting gay relationships was a mark of his courage.

--He said it showed "he was not afraid of dealing with things" - a quality "which might be a leadership criterion".

He is also prepared to continue the tradition of irresponsibility without power (masquerading as principle):

--He will say: "Everyone knows that under my leadership there would be no question of entering a coalition for the sake of a ministerial position.

Now we've learnt quite a bit about the Liberals over the past few weeks but the question remains: are they masochistic enough to vote for Simon Hughes?

Does everyone understand now why Charlie K had a drink problem?!

Am I missing something? Last week's Popbitch said an unnamed Liberal leadership contender paid GIRLS to shit in their knickers, not boys - so why the link to Oaten-so-simple?

Gossipmongers are renowned for total accuracy of course! I'm sure variants of this story are still spreading around, girls/boys/horses/tories etc..

Ming for King!!

Isn't the plural of "poof", "pooves"?

No. It's poof, like the plural of sheep is sheep.

Recess, you must be the funniest guy in the world!!

So when it is averred that the Welsh have a predeliction for sheep there is an implied suggestion of promiscuity?

no, just baa-sexuality.
